Sports betting CPI: more than 40 people will be called to testify

In the session held yesterday, June 6, the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry – Sports Betting CPI approved the summoning of more than 40 people to give testimony. Among those called up are several players who are under investigation by the Maximum Penalty Operation, conducted by the Public Ministry of Goiás, including players who have already played for big clubs.

Among the players called up are Paulo Miranda, Igor Cariús, Victor Ramos, Fernando Neto, Matheus Gomes, Eduardo Bauermann, Vitor Mendes, Dadá Belmonte, Alef Manga, Brayan Garcia, Gabriel Tota, Romário, Gabriel Domingos, Richard, Kevin Lomonaco, Moraes and Nino Paraiba.

The Maximum Penalty Operation, led by the Public Ministry of Goiás, is investigating possible irregular activities and match-fixing in the context of sports betting. On the other hand, the CPI on Sports Betting aims to deepen these investigations and clarify the participation of players and others involved in alleged schemes.

The purpose of summoning the players and other people involved in the case is to seek clarification on the suspicions in question. Next Tuesday promises to be a day of revealing and potentially tense testimonials. It is expected that details about betting and possible manipulation of results in the sporting context will be exposed during these testimonials.

The sports betting CPI has received 179 applications to date

Yesterday’s meeting (6th) got off to a tense start, with deputies Wellington Roberto (PL-PB) and Luciano Vieira (PL-RJ) from the Liberal Party, expressing dissatisfaction with the approach to withdrawing requests for summons from businessmen linked to houses of bets.

Initially, the sports betting CPI received a total of 179 requests, most of them requesting the summoning or invitation to testimonials. In addition, 70 applications were analyzed, many of which were repeated. For example, the call-up of the player Igor Cariús was voted on three times previously.

Among the approved requests, the one of deputy Márcio Marinho (Republicanos-BA) stands out, who requested the presence of journalist André Rizek. The topic addressed will be the similarities between Mafia do Apito 2005 and the scheme of bookmakers.
