The sports betting CPI is investigating manipulation in the results of matches in Brazilian football. This Tuesday, the 13th, the Chamber of Deputies receives representatives of associations linked to the sport.
The guest list includes Ronei Ferreira de Freitas, president of the Goiás Football Federation, and Cleyton Pereira dos Anjos, former president of the Goiás Football Referees Union.
In addition, deputies will listen to Júlio César Garcias, president of the state’s Professional Athletes Union. The hearing is scheduled for 2:30 pm on Tuesday. The invitations meet requests filed by deputies Daniel Agrobom (PL-GO) and Yuri do Paredão (PL-CE).
“By summoning the presidents of the state football federations, the CPI seeks to obtain accurate information about the extent of the fraud scheme, identify possible connections between those involved and take effective measures to combat this illegal practice”, claimed deputy Yuri do Paredão in a request.
Players not found
In addition to representatives of sports organizations, two athletes were invited to the audience: Eduardo Bauermann, from Santos, and Marcos Vinícius Alves Bezerra, known as Romário, from Vila Nova. The Peixe defender sent a request to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to avoid his participation.
The two players are investigated by the Goiás Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPGO) in Operation Maximum Penalty, which investigates manipulation in the result of games to benefit investors in sports betting. According to the presidency of the CPI, the players “were not identified”.
This is the case of João Studart (CEO of NSX Group Betnacional), Ernildo Júnior Farias (owner of Pixbet), Kimberlay Daly and Gustavo Silva (executives of Betfair).

The sports betting CPI is chaired by Júlio Arcoverde (PP-PI) and rapporteur by Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE). The discussion on the subject intensified after the Public Ministry of Goiás (MPGO) denounced 16 people for interference in the results of 13 football matches.
The cases took place in games in Series A and B of the Brazilian Championship last year, and in state competitions this year. Several players ended up away from their clubs on suspicion of participating in the betting scheme.
